problem with coal fired plants it that they are only 30 - 40% efficient, compared with 55 - 60% for gas, and 4 times the CO2 emissions. Next is coming the gas fuel cell which will convert CH4 to electricity without combustion and is 70% efficient. See Ceramic fuel cells.............. Looking at a 100 year chart, coal was 90% of world energy and now it is 30% and falling. There will be continuing price pressure as supply is abundant and CEY is disadvantaged by having underground mines. Anvil Hill will rectify this, but at a cost and with considerable risk. The new coal technologies of sequestration and gasefication are decades away - too long for CEY!
