Maybe nato thought inviting Greenland wouldn't be a good idea. Given the constant headlines and ongoing declarations stating how independent the country is and how they're not for sale. It's continuance risked aggravating trump further. Much better to just exclude them then risk any continued dramatization aggravating Trump and risking provoking the delicate situation between nato and Trump into further hostilities.
It's probably a smart move If the greenlandic politicians were seen to be too uncomfortably reactive
