"Initially the greens where a concerned bunch of tree huggers"
incorrect - the greens movement began in the early 1970s out of a protest movement agains the flooding of Lake Peddar - I know - I was there. The truu hugging came later when the greens begand to develop into first of all an envirnonmental organsisation and then, only later, a political one. It also spread from tasmania (the UTG) overseas to Germany and other parts of Europe - then the rest of the world.
"radical loonies left the ALP and joined the greens"
again, incorrect - very few ex ALP have joined the greens. in fact many ex Libs have joined the greens so i have no idea where you get this "radical" idea from - and many greens policies are supported by both the Libs and the Nats - that's how radical the greens are.
" alot of people have suggested that both groups would eat each other alive..
who? got any examples?
"The majority of Lib/nat supporters are happy to have a sensible aproach to a balance between primary industry and the environment ,farming and fostery people depend on it
now who's in denail - every time the right has split (and it has happened many times) it has been down city/country lines - they are no more a united force tan N and S Korea.
who are these "radicals" you keep referring to in your post?
do you even know what a "radical" is? John Howard described himself as a radical conservative - is he one of them
