Greens set for Tassie senate seat
October 09, 2004
THE Australian Greens said tonight former state MP Christine Milne was on track to win a Senate seat in Tasmania.
The high-profile conservationist was on 13.92 per cent of the vote, slightly short of a full quota.
Greens senator Kerry Nettle told AAP that Ms Milne would become the first Greens candidate to win a Senate seat on a full quota, without having to go to preferences.
"We are feeling it's likely she will win," Senator Nettle said.
"She may well be the first Green to get elected entirely on her own quota."
Senator Nettle said the next most likely win would be in Western Australia followed by Queensland.
The Greens are hoping to pick up at least three extra seats in the Senate.
They currently hold two Senate seats.
