    Hi brakar,

    There is a company in the US developing transportable thorium reactors like the one I described above. I found this on the web the other day. This is a modular reactor and is delivered fully fueled and is installed easily. The fuel depletes after 10 years when the reactor is swapped for a new one. The old reactor is recycled and reprocessed at the factory. (I'll try and find the link to this.)

    The Russians have developed a 90% thorium fuel rod assembly that fits their standard VVER1200 reactor (1.2GW). The fuel assembly has a uranium/plutonium core, a thorium blanket and a neutron reflector. The thorium rods are replaced every 9 years. The uranium/plutonium rods are replaced every 3 years. But they are not selling this. The big problem with this technology is it is too good. Like a car that runs forever on water. If a country has very little energy requirements for 10 years what do you sell them in the interim? What happens to the energy economy?
