Why would the Greens give their preferences to Labor ?

Labor voters were always going to vote Labor, the votes the Greens just lost through today's decison were all the Liberal protest votes that were unhappy with Iraq and Howard's arrogance in general and wanted to make their feelings known. Now a Green vote is a Labor vote the Greens will lose all of the protest vote and have less power to affect change with a new Howard government. I cannot see how they will have gained any votes and have now aligned themselves with the backflipping (PBS and FTA) Labor team.... looks pretty dumb to me .. stupid b*stards had my vote until today...
