How can you honestly have that point of view, when a senator can be appointed by the state parliament without even having an election, as was the case with Bob Carr when a NSW labor senator resigned?
Next thing we know, he was appointed the Foreign Minister!

THen he re-stands for election, and when the ALP got the boot, he resigned instead of serving his 6 years term, and someone else got appointed in his stead, again without an election.

I'm sorry, but the senate was designed as a State's house, which is why the number of senators in each of the original states is the same regardless of population.

To say it is more representative of the people's wishes, is hard to fathom.
