Interesting post Yttrium. As far as I know, there has never been a proper informed debate in this country with good scientific input as to what a realistic and sustainable population really is. I imagine this number would not necessarily be absolute because it would depend on what proportion of the national wealth went back into maintaining the environment. Still it is something that really needs to happen.
This is an issue which should be held distinct from how we decide who actually gets to stay here and what our responsibilities might be to those who have been forced out of their own home countries.
To my mind neither of these issues have been properly dealt with.
