News just out, Australia to become the only country to deny mRNA vaccines to older people. The people in Australia that need the most effective vaccines will be stuck with the least effective vaccines. Galactically stupid.
The Pfizer older age group exclusion made no sense, and now Greg Hunt is about to throw your oldies under the bus, again. 10 million Moderna doses for under 18-60 yrs and a further 15 million reserved for possible booster use. Oldies reluctant to take Asrtazeneca will be outraged to know that the most effective vaccine is unattainable even though it is SITTING ON A SHELF.
A political decision and not a medical one, and 'necessary' because the government doesn't have enough mRNA vaccines. As I recall didn't Greg Hunt fail to secure any Moderna the first time around because of indemnity issues, some ace negotiating skills there, when someone is dangling a life saving treatment in front of you.
Hopefully a legal challenge is launched to fight this injustice, so that over 60s can be treated like REAL PEOPLE. Anyone in their 50s should be concerned too, if this situation drags on for years, you too will eventually be excluded from the most effective vaccines.
