. FWIW I think today's action by Israel is a justified response to an intransigent enemy determined to destroy them. The rationalisation for Israel's actions in Gaza has been that Hamas constitute an existential threat. October 7 showed that Hamas's capacity was far weaker than an existential threat then, and it's since been massively degraded. By all means strike against Hamas leaders if they can find them, but the use of among other things mass starvation of the civilian population as a weapon of war designed to drive people from their territory is a war crime and should be regarded as such.

. Strikes against military targets in Iran, particularly those related to nuclear weapons are a legitimate response to an existential threat. Israel should not be expected to allow a country that has openly targeted it for destruction to develop nuclear weapons. My understanding is that Iran's security forces are a leaky ship, with not everyone on board with the Mullahs, such that not a lot goes on there that the Israelis don't know about. They should have the right to use any information that comes their way to prevent Iran from developing WMD's.
