The "Big Stick" policy has never worked. The Carbon Price instituted by Gillard, and abolished by Abbott, had a mild Big Stick effect as it allowed high emissions producers to invest and thus reap an off-set revenue stream.

Yet the Abbott Big Stick had no impact on emissions reductions and so emissions rose under his policies.

IMO the reductions in emissions are the result of the legacy of Gillard's CEFC and ARENA encouraging large array solar and wind energy projects and the State policies of supporting domestic solar installation, encourage by the very modest Feed-In Tariff (TIF) which enabled families to benefit from their electricity production and thus lower home electricity costs.

The results here are not due to Lib policies but contrary to policies put in place by Abbott.

Coal has been displaced as solar and wind have increased supply. Coal prices have fallen globally as other nations do the same thus reducing demand for coal.

This is excellent news for the economy as well as for global warming, which is only disputed in Aus and US.

    Scott.
