The personal vote of a high profile former PM was lost when Rudd suddenly resigned. Also there was likely to be a backlash for Rudd retiring so early after an election. Also given the low turnout that is acknowledged to have favoured the LNP and yet Labor has won.

IMO it appears Bill Glasson was a first class candidate, probably as good as the libs could get and yet he couldnt get there. my commiserations to him.
