"Yeah I don't see what the fuss is about "
Exactly, you don't.
Supermarkets and media and a few posters here, yourself included,
are calling it a "plastic bag ban".
Couldn't be further from the truth.
I worked in an underground coal mine. Smoking was banned.
No one would even dare, nor be allowed, to take their fags/lighters underground.
Smoking is banned from public transport, planes and even sporting venues.
No one is willing to break those bans.
The withdrawal of free bags from checkouts at shops/supermarkets,
is NOT a BAN on plastic bags, but a blatant cash grab, in the way of savings,
made on not providing "free" bags, and expecting to sell the multi use bags,
which they are predicting to be in multi millions of $$$$.
Add to that the increase in sales of bin liner bags, great $$$ making decision.
Aside from the FACT that plastic bags, of all shapes and sizes, are being sold,
they still provide "free plastic bags" for vegies, nuts, dried fruit,
deli meats, and anything else that shoppers care to put in them.
Plastic bag ban...…………….. utter CRAP.
Fuss is about the lies of supermarkets, that would have somewhere along the line,
charged us for the cost of these bags. Will they issue an ann. of a price drop
on one or two items, to refund us the cost of these "free bags". Don't think so.
Won't be long, and the 'grey' bags shall be back.
