Ol Trev may have been standing behind the door when diplomacy genes were being issued, but imo he has a valid point.

The contamination levels reported and used as the basis for the DERM action were erroneous ... and in any case were at the limits of laboratory detection accuracies.

Farmers have no compunction about using all manner of chemicals to enhance production and these chemicals wash into creeks and rivers and are clearly detectable by water testing.

Most farmers drive cars and farm machinery that exposes them to higher levels of benzene and toluene than anything UCG 300m underground might. Ditto for farmers who also smoke or use slow combustion fireplaces or conduct open air burnoffs like for sugar cane or land clearing.

In the meantime, farmers in places like the Hunter Valley and other coal minng regions are amongst victims of particulate and heavy metals concetrations well above most others in this land.

Finally, would you inflict global warming on the rest of Australia and the world by favouring ongoing coal mining and resisting an innovative greener energy source that in an aggregates seven yrs of tightly regulated pilot burns has caused no groundwater and environmental issues that I am aware of?

UCG is an eloquent greener energy solution for our times imo.

    Cheers
