The sentiment on the US market does affect our market, about 40% of the ASX stocks are owned by overseas investors and insitutions. If there are major downturns overseas and funds are withdrawn from our market even a tiddler like FRI ( market cap ~ $200m) will not be immune, many small caps are more dramatically affected. I notice the liquidity of FRI is low so if a big investor needs to withdraw funds it could become very volatile. I do not know about who the major holders are, I suspect the directors are up there.
I reckon there is significantly more upside(risk) than there is downside risk, but as you say even if the sp does not move much there is the handsome divi.
I am off to check out that other one you mentioned.
