grr proposal to boost mineral production

  1. 106 Posts.
ABC reported that the mining company Grange Resources is looking into a proposal to radically increase Tasmania's mineral production.

Grange wants to build more pipelines alongside its Savage River slurry line. The Savage River pipeline carries a million dollars worth of iron ore from Savage River to Port Latta every day.

Mr Wayne Bould from Grange Resources said that there is scope to put more pipes along the same corridor for other companies to use.

Mr Bould said that "It's the cheapest way to bring product out of the south west area not needing the roads and all the road infrastructure and all the associated dangers."

Mr Terry Long from the Minerals Council said that the plan could bring a number of unviable mines into production, injecting billions into the state's economy. Mr Long said that "I think it's fairly visionary thinking."

Grange Resources is floating the idea tomorrow at a mining industry conference in Launceston. Grange said that the idea is still in its early stages and will need backing from industry and government.

Who owns the "unviable" mines? Perhaps some good news for those companies in the short term.
