Everyone out there have access to their Relenza? Never mind pandemic supplies, I mean ordinary flu.

Any chance that GSK may be just a touch disingenuous in stating demand?

Any chance that GSK may be attempting to portray itself as labouring against insurmountable odds to supply all that will be necessary in the shortest time possible for the purposes of saving public face?

Do I still detect an attempt to blame the "extremely complicated delivery system" as causing the unwanted delays? Any chance that there may be another company (or couple of hundred thousand) that just may be capable of mixing 5 mg zanamivir with lactose and packing it in a blister foil pack to help up with production hiatus? For that matter the plastic applicator is a true masterpiece of high tech instrumentation. I bet there is a real problem making those! In fact I bet there would be fewer than a million backyard enterprises in China capable of supplying a couple of billion such applicators by the end of next month!!

As for the difficulty in making Relenza (two fewer steps than Tamiflu and starting from cheaper source material) I can readily accept that Roche can produce hundreds of times more of their drug than GSK can. No really, I believe GSK entirely. Honestly. There is no chance they would be gilding the lily. Such honest upright corporate citizens who have always supported the production, distribution, promotion and research development of Relenza. After all it usually takes 7 years to get around to applying for US registration for use as a prophylactic after trials were successfully completed in US nursing homes. I mean to say, JP Garnier and his friends have been busy. Couldn't do it any faster. Besides, when you don't even make the drug what's the rush?
