The proposed extra funding will make a big difference to the level of hospital and medical care services, I have no doubt about that.
We do not want just an increase in the quantity, we would want an increase in the quality of health care as well.
The proposal does mean quite a drastic change to the ways our hospital system will be run in the future.
The Commonwealth government in the future will have a big direct say, via the financial purse string and the reporting system, in the quantity and quality of health care in this country, and ... this is where I have one concern: what if a future Commonwealth government is inclined to fund only a minimal level of the hospitals needs ? Will our hospitals then fall back to the state of disrepair ?
