IMO, it is fair to levy GST on import goods because it levels the playing field between supermarkets, high street shops, corner stores , ebay, Amazon and the individual buying online.
Local retailers who have padded-up the price will have to levy extra GST and that's where the benefit of buying online is:
-lower cash price & lower GST (not no GST)
