It is just a token for the retailers in Australia who have been ripping off their customers for years and will result in more firms like Amazon refusing to sell to Australia

So the public will suffer for no reason other than a token gesture to people who don't deserve it.

IMHO Retailers like Harvey Norman, Dick Smith and Bunnings have all been collecting huge mark ups by buying cheap Asian product and selling it here but when the public cut them out and take advantage of the cheap prices, suddenly these firms cry foul and want to take their bat and ball and sulk all the way home

The Federal Parliament has called it a GST but in truth it is a tariff. A tariff intended to prop up a noncompetitive home retail industry; a tariff that infringes upon the right of the consumer to get the best possible price for the product of his choice; a tariff taken by force!
