The mini refinery in the Brewer Estate in Alice Springs is for oil not gas. When Surprise was pumping there was the suggestion that the sweet light crude from that well would be trucked to the Estate and refined but the costs were too high due to the lack of scale. GTL technology is scalable and can be situated near stranded natural gas resources and convert them to high quality diesel. In the NT most gas resources are likely to be stranded as more are discovered in remote locations. GTL doesn't need hugely expensive pipelines and it is environmentally friendly.
