banning assault weapons would be a start , but again it would make little difference . There are too many semi automatics that are not assault weapons, pistols with ten round clips , semi automatic shotguns, and the list goes on. The other thing is that there are a huge number of unregistered assault weapons whose owners will not give them up . There is also the availability of all manner of weapons at gun shows where of course there are no background checks. There are well over 300 million guns in America and no amount of changes to the law will prevent a continuation mass shootings any time soon.
