1ShareA coal industry insider says Australia may be looking to move away from coal powered energy, but it's on the rise across the globe.
Formers coal analyst and CEO of new miner C@, Mark Earley, says demand is being driven by developing countries.
Mr Earley says India is a prime example where construction of a number of massive coal-fired power stations is underway.
"They're building 4,000-megawatt units on the west coast of India," he said.
"Added to that, there's still growth in China, and demand coming on in the Philippines and Vietnam, who are looking desperately to optimise their power supplies.
"Coal is here for hundreds of years. To think otherwise, you know, is living in cloud cuckoo land."
