    Deja vu eh lol ... but Dub is right ... should have been on General in the first place ... so my reply again (with minor edits) ...

    G E E P E R S ... nuking could surely have the downside risk of bringing the whole resevoir up in one event ... a huge risk would be that if nuking is unsuccessful it might be near impossible to go anywhere near the sea bed in that location to try other remediation options ... and the rock mass properties would be so altered nobody would have the slightest idea how to drill or do anything.

    You know, it is hard to imagine that so called "risk averse" oil producers couldn't have predicted such a failure and had Plans A, B, C and D ready to roll!

    Risk assessors at all other major offshore oil producers must be in a heightened state of anxiety right now.
