    I think that is exactly why the second amendment WAS added.

    "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." was written with this in mind "Moreover, the prefatory clause's history comported with the Court's interpretation, because the prefatory clause stemmed from the Anti-Federalists' concern that the federal government would disarm the people in order to disable the citizens' militia, enabling a politicized standing army or a select militia to rule."

    In other words it IS there to outdo the federal army - should the federal army become tyrannical and erode freedoms.

    It seems to me that when American's freedoms are being eroded at the current rate, that they will cling more fiercely onto their guns. Perhaps if the federal government upheld the constitution then people wouldn't fear a tyrannical federal army. Just check out some of the SWAT teams sent to trivial things.
