Croupier old son, as a licenced gun owner and practical pistol shooter, may I point out that few if any crimes are commited with licensed weapons.
Also, the gun law revamp took certain classes of guns away from people who LEGALLY held them, that is the people the authorities knew about. The people who held unlicenced weapons probably still have their assault rifles etc.
Further bans on firearms will only hurt responsible people, and those of evil intent will still have their illegal weapons.
My belief is that by making licencing procedures less draconian, more people will be encouraged to licence firearms, giving the authorities more knowledge and control over who has what.Thorough training in firearm safety should accompany any application for a firearms licence, as should a detailed psychiatric evaluation.
