This happens violently and accompanied with a very loud bang like a gunshot. By contract this does not occur with steel reinforced test bars. They fracture progressively and without the accompanying loud bang. This is why nano reinforcing cannot replace steel in construction concrete and is limited to surface coatings like shotcrete or slabs on grade. Any attempt to remove the steel reinforcing could lead to catastrophic failure.
