Agree, but if there's a market for exporting hydrogen overseas, pipelines aren't an option. Ammonia as a transport medium may be a safer and cheaper if the process of turning hydrogen into ammonia and back again is relatively efficient.
In addition, if hydrogen-powered vehicles become mainstream there will be a need for refuelling infrastructure. It might be easier to transport and store hydrogen as ammonia in hydrogen refuelling stations, and convert to hydrogen on demand using the CSIRO system, rather than to store large amounts of hydrogen under high pressure. Of course it makes sense to integrate hydrogen refuelling stations and electric car charging stations with the existing service station infrastructure.
