Elon Musk is one of the most amazing people on the planet (Earth, that is, at least for the moment).
We probably wouldn't have heard of the company if he hadn't run it. He's made the previously impossible or at least improbable a reality, disrupted the car industry (rivalling BMW, Audi, Mercedes and possibly even Supercars such as Ferrari etc), disrupted the space industry and possibly even long-distance travel (hyperloop, his design given without patents), putting his own money on the line. His involvement with Solarcity has also sped the take up of solar in the US, so good for renewables and the planet.
For that matter, he's done a great service to Redflow & other similar companies by puting residential batteries out there as a desirable item.
All of which would have happened eventually, but he's making it all happen now.
Whilst he is eccentric, I think it is extremely unfair to call him a madman.
I think he is one of the greatest visionaries alive, and he gets things done that others could only dream of doing.

Great to see Redflow starting to get its commercialisation happening, seemingly with all the various pieces of the puzzle falling into place & very much with the right solutions available at the right time (residential storage, LSBs when there are a squillion new applications requiring it).
I hope to see The Z-Cell outsell the Tesla Powerwall (+ other competition), however I think it is poor form to criticise Tesla & Elon Musk. Quite the opposite, we should be thankful as we hopefully leapfrog it with the opportunity that the Powerwall has created.
