"I believe this to be because the human body/brain and all relevant mechanisms are in constant “power saving mode”
Morning to both of you. Just a brief post - there's far too much in both of your posts to reply to in detail - I really valued both posts.I've been thinking about 'power saving mode' -- for ages now. I haven't used that term - but, I suspect that we have a lot of energy saving mechanisms for a variety of situations - such as famines or similar - as well as normal day to day routines - like running like hell from a big cat or similar. I'm atm thinking a lot about emotions - and, joy - to me - there's no doubt that anhedodia has an energy saving factor involved.
I read this earlier which I found interesting - just for everyone's interest -
Insects and emotionsThe cooling of the brain is fascinating --- O and Co2 are an area of much interest to me atm. ----------
I'll put something in here - just an observation which may mean absolutely zip - or ?? who knows.
Back in Oz in Tassie - ? that would be ? 3 years now I think - I started playing with controlled hyperventilation -
mucking about with some of the things that Wim Hof speaks of. I started doing his balloon blowing exercises before heading out on mornings around the plus 3 to minus 3 degree C mark.
I found that the light headedness went away quite quickly - can't recall exactly - but, within a week or so. I also found that it the whole exercise appeared to work and that I could far more comfortably handle the cold - out walking. At that stage - I was walking and weight work - not a bike.
Then, I went from a Tassie spring to a UK Autumn - although my fitness went off - less distances walked - I still used the hyperventilating because the temps were pretty much similar to Tassie.
So far - we are merely speaking about purposeful use - ie. consciously turning it on.
Whilst I don't recall last winter clearly with the hyperventilating - what I do notice now is that on bike riding - I sometimes breathe much harder than I need to - and, I 'push' it out - like blowing balloons. Also - what I found only a week or so back on a much colder morning - and, I was out just beginning a walk - I hadn't warmed up at all (from the walk) - but, I found that I automatically began to do the controlled hyperventilate trick - perhaps the mind has been trained by me using it --------- but, perhaps - the body may have learned that if it does this - then, it aids with the 'climate control'.
Whatever it is - something is doing something - and, I think it's all to do with gas - and, quite possibly blood flow as well - but, I feel that gas is involved. I've also noticed that this year - I am only wearing a bare bike helmet - not wearing a thin beanie under ----- and that is something last year that I definitely felt a need for. This year - so far - the only things that feel cold are feet, hands so far (and it's got to be sub. for that) - I'm expecting ears to complain soon - but, the snow is already here and I'm more comfortable with the cold this year than last.
