@Nero48 'man needs God' and mankind has invented him over and over again (look at the many different religions of the world).
However: I do agree with most of what you say, BUT I feel we are a species always in search of what is the 'ideal man' 'ideal woman' and we have some moral compunctions, which animals don't have. Where does that come from? Maybe our big brain allows us to think beyond immediate survival of the species, allows us to become 'moral' and perhaps extend some kind of morality to our dealings with our neighbours, the next tribe, maybe the whole world.
Religion played a big part in developing our 'moral sense' - so I don't decry it, but present-day harpings on ancient prophecies simply point to the insecurities we all feel about the world now.
Too much is happening: we have managed to wreck the normal workings of the natural world, there are probably too many of us,
too few other species are left, which we have ravaged - or bred single species on feedlots, which destroy the natural environment
and
and
we all know what ails the world; mankind's greed, endless need for things which aren't necessary, and generally our expansionism into all kinds of eco-systems which should have been left alone.
So, yes, "Apocalypse" is, what is on people's minds -
not on mine, I might add; I believe we have enough people of good intention, of vast knowledge and capacity to get us out of this present jam, but we have to pull together - all of us!
I applaud the election of the new Pope - he will be a brake on a certain D.T's ridiculous doings - and a welcome American voice of reason, in contrast to the uncontrolled ravings we hear from the one who loves to hear himself:
speak, ramble - noise is what matters to him.
Noise and upheaval. The world does not need that!Go well
