No here's a thought.
If we didn't have Halal certifiers in this country, we'd have to pay to outsource it to other countries.
If we don't have Halal certification we lose billions on lost markets. So it's a necessary evil. Yes, I am happy to put it that way.
So it's probably cheaper in the long run to get it done here.
I know many are uninterested in the economic arguments, but how would we find a substitute for the markets we would lose if we ban certification?
Is this is the questions Kirrallee cannot answer?
Out of left field, but what the Govt could do is have the ATO or some similar Govt authority manage Halal certification. All funds collected would go into general revenue, except for a small percentage that would be used to fund Islamic schools. Yeah I know... Buckley's![]()
