I accept that yours is a valid argument. But if you look at the balance of argument I don't think it stacks up.
One way we have black and white : good test = win, bad test = lose.
Your way, good test = only half as good, bad test = we have just one frail straw to clutch to save us from the identical oblivion. And the straw is very frail indeed because the technology we're thenrelying on would have already failed once so the odds with pervering don't look too good.

Definition of insanity : Continuing to do the same thing, expecting a different outcome.
