re: jail for execs Regarding Telstra's briefing the govt, even if there was a technical breach of the law, I fail to see how shareholders were disadvantaged in practice. The govt was never going to trade in shares on the basis of privileged information received, and all other shareholders were in the same boat in not having the information. Briefing the media before the ASX is a different matter, but in practice what shareholders would be reading ASX announcements avidly but miss prominent stories in the media? Still, the media shouldn't have been briefed before the ASX, so the execs deserve at least a slap on the wrists, but not jail.
