Japan min:no ban on China rare earth export to Japan

TOKYO, Sept 24 (Reuters) - Japan has confirmed that China'strade ministry has not banned rare earth exports to Japan,Akihiro Ohata, head of the Ministry of Economy, Trade andIndustry (METI) told reporters on Friday.
A Chinese trade official on Thursday denied a New York Timesreport that China had banned exports of rare earths to Japanfollowing the arrest of a Chinese trawler captain near disputedislands. [ID:nSGE68M08M]
The report, which was sourced to unnamed industry experts,said an initial trade embargo on all exports of rare earthminerals would last through the end of this month.(Reporting by Risa Maeda; Editing by Joseph Radford)
