I know nothing about radio channels, but I would have thought in todays world that they would have sat phones, if they needed communications. At $1Million a day, you want a clear voice on the other end, not a garbled message. I can just imagine "Send more Beer" coming via the Sat phone and via radio it being misinterpreted as "Send more queers".Well the drillers get lonely LOL.

Radio is choice of communication for the drill rigs used in mineral exploration. Sat Phones on Oil Rigs, especially floating ones that are worth 10's Million Dollars.
