Around thirty some years ago when the USA adopted those crazy DEI policies they ceased to hire for industrial and academic positions on the basis of merit, i.e. experience and education, ethics and attitude.

As a result, many, if not most, of America's most skilled younger engineers and scientists left the country. Australia gained some, some European countries picked up a few, but most went to various countries in Asia with China getting the largest proportion. Russia made out OK too.

Later American policies made it so none of these people could safely return to the USA or work in anything related to defense/military industries even in "allied" countries such as Australia. Australia, of course, has also adopted DEI policies particularly in academia so the necessary skills to manufacture weapons has not been taught here in decades. It take 20 years to make an effective soldier, but it takes at least 35 years to make an decent engineer or scientist.
