I am at a loss as to how the author came up with some of those numbers ???
So here are some of my numbers.
If the 874.82 troy ounce nugget was sold for (allegedly) US$1,000,000, then:
1,000,000 / 874.82 = US$1,143.06 per ounce
With today's gold price of US$1,316/ounce, the nugget's intrinsic value would be in the order of US$1,151,263.
So, he received a pretty good price for the nugget, then.
