    beetlebrain,
of course if just makes more sense to correctly and securely lock your bag prior to check in.

Can you image all the howls and screams about invasion of privacy and the massive queues at check-in and the 6-8 hour check-in time as people try to re-pack their bags afer a check-in inspection?

Some people dont want to take responsibility for anything, even something as simple as putting a lock on your bag.

The desire for the nanny state, where you can point a finger at someone and blame them for your own foolishness runs very deep in some people.

beetlebrain, your demand is just foolishness.

Would you leave your front door unlocked and go off for 6-8 hours and trust in the good will of all who might happen by?
Would you leave your car doors unlocked while you park your car in the main street and go off for shopping for 6-8 hours?

If your bag is difficult to lock, buy another bag that can be locked.

The airlines are not a nanny service.
You know that there are people in this world who will take advantage of any situation if at all possible.

It is your responsibilty to take action to ensure you are not left vulnerable, no-one elses.
