Ausenco update on Lumwana Copper Project
Global diversified engineering services group, Ausenco Limited (ASX:AAX) reported that it has
procured all replacement equipment for the Lumwana Copper Project damaged by fire on 7 July
2008.
The fire, in which no one was injured, damaged the main 20MVA transformer and adjacent 11kV
station. This equipment forms part of the process plant facility currently being commissioned by
Ausenco and its joint venture partner Bateman Engineering Limited for Equinox Minerals Limited.
Ausenco Chief Executive Office Zimi Meka said “The investigation by independent experts was
now essentially complete and remediation of the damaged area has commenced. We have had
some tremendous support from all our people, suppliers and clients who all have assisted us in
procuring the replacement equipment as well as progressing though the rescheduled planning
and commissioning timetable.”
“Commissioning work is continuing in other areas of the plant, with reticulated power from the
Zambian utility, ZESCO remaining unaffected and available.”
“Based on the current times for the replacement transformer, cabling and switchboards we expect
the project to be ready for hand over in late October 2008.” Mr Meka said.
“Our focus is on implementing the remediation program to complete the plant commissioning to
get it operating for our client as soon as possible,” he said. “We are working closely with the
Lumwana project team and Equinox Minerals Limited to achieve this.”
