THE corporate watchdog investigating an insider trading scandal feared that senior Chinese mining executive Steven Hui Xiao was a flight risk.
Yesterday, the regulator would not comment on whether Mr Xiao had returned safely from Hong Kong, as promised, to deal with the insider trading allegations.
It was a strange ransom of sorts, which had been outlined to the NSW Supreme Court when Mr Xiao, a Chinese national, applied to have travel restrictions lifted to allow him to make a lightning trip to Hong Kong, for visa residency purposes. His wife would hand in her passport, and remain at their upper Sydney north shore home with their two children.
