The lithium sector received a further shot in the arm on Monday with the news of a legal fight to block a proposed expansion of the world-leading Greenbushes lithium mine in southern Western Australia. The operators of Greenbushes, Tianqi Lithium and Albemarle, want to double the mine’s output but Global Advanced Metals — which has the rights to tantalum production from the mine — has gone to the Supreme Court arguing that the expansion plans would permanently sterilise and waste tantalum resources within the deposit. ???? Interesting. GAM shares two board members with one of the heavy weights that has waded into the Australian lithium sector, the same one that GAM sold Wodgina to... convenient that GAM are now trying to block the Greenbushes expansion. If it works it will no doubt be good for KDR and SQM.
