There's certainly a lot of opportunity there. The challenge is in the structural geology and having a real geologist who can map/model the coal effectively. Take a look at Daunia mine with google earth. In the fields beyond the highwall crest it can be seen that some intense 3D seismic surveys have been done... and they still can't get it right.
Over the last couple of decades, the industry has incorrectly assigned the title of "Geologist" to "Field Assistants". Combine this with BMA hiring policy where skin colour and gender are more important than technical ability and the industry has been perforated with incompetence. Importing people wont fix this, only a cultural shift and deconstruction of individual mines will fix this. We're watching this deconstruction take place naturally as BMA offloads Daunia and other operations. If/when SMR picks up Daunia, it should be expected that a purge of staff takes place.
