You've hit upon an issue I have to grapple with daily. On the one hand I know I have to trade the market I see in the charts, on the other hand it is sometimes hard to act on what the charts are saying.
For example, the dramatic fall in the financials was obvious if only we had believed the signals in the charts. I wasn't fully prepared to accept they would fall as hard and fast as they did - I couldn't "suspend disbelief" so, I didn't make anywhere near as much money as I should have.
Reading authors like Dent and looking at the longer-term economic movements help me to suspend disbelief and to imagine a world very different to the current one. The key to me being able to catch and ride the BIG moves is being able to trust my analysis enough to really back it with the full force of my account. More conviction = more success imo.
