Go to the BOM site and check past climate and weather data. Be sure to untick the box 'Only show open stations' and take note of the high temperatures recorded for some stations, going back to the late 1800s/early 1900s. Interesting though; some stations that I know that have records going back to the late 1800s, now only have records from the late 1960s to the present.
