Some holiday reading on the appropriateness of declines (ramps) vs shafts in underground mining.
Nowa Ruda it seems has coal at between 650m and 1000m (so far), with the anthracite being at 1 km,and access will be via a declines, rather than by shaft (as per wazbee's post). Planned output appears to be 1.25 - 2.25 Mt per annum.
Of particular interest to me at the links below, was the recommended max. mine output and max. mine depth advised if a decline rather than a shaft is to be used to access a mineral deposit.
