    "We are told that they are pumping from a closed system and that no new water is entering the system. The change in water levels when pumping stops is supposedly from drainage from coal which is further away."
    .......If you lower pressure in one area then the water will want to flow into that lower pressure zone.

    "Given this scenario, we must get gas flows soon and as we have also had delays, we have drained coals further away from the well. Where water can flow, gas can travel easily."
    ........this is why they have had many desorption events before, only to be cut short by engineering / pump issues.

    "So when it flows it should be massive"
    ........if they can keep those pumps going at an above inflow rate, protect the de-watered area, and get the coals to an average pressure that triggers another desorption event, then we should be on a winner.
