what i'm getting from avarists' comments is the rock has been fractured, the fractures have filled with other minerals. these fractures provide the necessary spacing within the rock for the gas/oil to flow.
the fact that the meerenie is so hard is a good thing as this means the rock has been fractured, the fractures filled with really hard stuff or contributing to the cementation and is slowing down drilling.
the main point is it seems the rock has been naturally fractured as what happened with palm valley.
