With a federal election sometime between now and next year, I would be very surprised if a Santos sale was approved to a foreign buyer. If Costello knocked back Shell's takeover of Woodside in 01, why would this one get over the line? Is the government that confident they have SA votes in the bag at the next election? I doubt it.
