When the mkt is in the opening or closing auction (pre open), and there are bids and offers that overlap, you should see an indicative price (the price it will open or close at after the match) somewhere near the share quotes board, and an indicative amount of shares (surplus) left after the auction completes.

If the number of shares has a minus in front of it, that's how many the sellers will have left at the match price after the close. If there is nothing in front of the number (ie a + number), that's the buyers residue after the match.

What Ozgem is saying is, you can't actually see the offscreen order/s sitting there on the board like the others, but the surplus number (+ or - ) near the indicative price let's you "see" that people offscreen are bidding.

Long winded, but if you are able to watch an opening or closing price match (morning open or arvo close), you should be able to see the above description in action, particularly if you watch a liquid stock.
